El Valle Course
El Valle Golf, which is situated in a beautiful desert-like valley was constructed by Nicklaus Design, who are world famous for their pioneering courses which merge into the landscape.
It includes subtly shaped bunkers that take full advantage of its desert setting, with the holes surrounded by natural rocks. There are a wide variety of desert shrubs and plants to emphasise the desert aspect of the course. There are two lakes, streams and waterfalls that give the perfect aesthetic touch to the course. It is a challenge for the golfer and has hosted tournaments in senior golf, both nationally & internationally. It was home of the Spanish Professional Competition and European Tour School stage 2 – 2010 & 2011.
Alhama Course
Alhama Golf is the one that can best be described as Jacks Signature course.
This absolutely beautiful Par 72 course stretches over 7000 yards from the back tees allowing plenty of opportunity to use the driver on the big wide fairways. However despite forgiving fairways and little rough, there are a total of five lakes, undulating fairways, over a hundred well placed sand traps and thousands of trees making this a real test for golfers of any handicap. It’s fair to say Alhama Golf is rapidly staking a claim to be the best Jack Nicklaus designed course in Spain.
Hacienda Riquelme Course
The Hacienda Riquelme Golf Course, which covers an area of 71 hectares has a stunning mountain backdrop. It runs through olive groves, wildflower meadows and large lakes. This course is different from the others in that it has ample fairways, which are combined with hard to approach greens and bunkers. Riquelme’s playing surfaces are grassed with the latest Paspalum varieties, which decreases the need for large amounts of fresh water.
All of these features combine to give the course an older look and feel, establishing it as one of the most unique stops along the Nicklaus trail. Many of the greens are on different levels, making it crucial for golfers to play the correct section of the green in order to set up the easiest putt possible. 5 lakes are also a feature on this course.
Saurines Course
Saurines is an 18 hole, par 72, desert-style golf course but with a links philosophy, is designed by Jack Nicklaus. It is designed with influences of the Nicklaus golf course in Lake, Las Vegas. Its main characteristics are undulating fairways and greens among desert dunes, few bunkers and a great 6 hectare lake. Holes 9 and 18 go around the lake, which guarantees an exciting final.
It measures a maximum of 6,498 metres. For long hitters, the par 5 holes are reachable in two, being under 480 metres, but you will have to be accurate as there are hazards left and right of the greens. The three par 3 holes are either long with two over 182 metres in length and although the 6th is short at 126 metres, the shot is played over water to a narrow green.
Saurines golf course is a great addition to the golf courses in this area and is well worth a visit.
La Torre Course
Designed by Nicklaus Design, the La Torre course is situated in a landscape with more than 5 acres of carefully placed bunkers to help separate the holes and reward strategic play plus a denser grass has been planted around the bunkers, creating the optimum wind shot effect. The course therefore offers challenging conditions and impeccable playing surfaces which make the course a pleasure to play. Three large lakes also come into play on six of the holes.
It has 6 par 3’s with the 11th and 17th, a carry over water of 170 yards plus 2 par 5’s, both of which are approx 500 yards. Accuracy is required for the par 4’s so keep that driver in your bag. The greens are undulating and quite fast.
It is a course known for being very entertaining, especially for players with a medium to high handicap. It incorporates a great deal of strategy and exciting shots from the tees, keeping the interest of more experienced players
Mar Menor Course
The Mar Menor Golf course is situated near the town of Torre Pacheco in Murcia. It is 5 km from the Mar Menor, a vast inland sea, from where it gets its name. It is framed by a stunning mountain backdrop, and is located on the site of a former citrus orchard.
It covers approximately 59 hectares and its maximum length of 6,153 metres is quite demanding. The green or play area covers a total of 45 hectares, with a variety of plants indigenous to the area covering the rest of the course.
The front nine of the Mar Menor Golf Course, designed by David Thomas, is par 37 with the long tees totalling 3,275 metres. The greens, with hardly any rough, are well protected by bunkers and the surrounding lakes.
The back nine, designed by Nicklaus Design, are par 35 with the long tees totalling 2,878 metres, this section offers wide fairways and roughs for big strokes. Especially noteworthy is the spectacular lake around holes 12, 14 and 15, which creates the largest obstacle to overcome. The rest of the holes are protected by strategic bunkers.
