Courses
Despite its relative youth Portmarnock Links has forged such a strong reputation that it is now held in the same high regard as other, more established, world class links courses in the UK and Ireland. The Portmarnock Links opened to great acclaim in June 1995 and has been receiving accolades from visiting golf writers and top professionals ever since. Bernhard Langer has used all of his considerable golfing experience to create a classic links of the very highest order. Host to many top amateur and professional events including the 2008 & 2009 Ladies Irish Open, this championship links boasts all of the features inherent to a classic links course. Elevated tees, blind approaches, sweeping undulations, devilish pot bunkers and, of course, the typical links sea breezes are all present and they combine to offer golfers of all abilities an authentic and infinitely enjoyable test of links golf. As with many of the top class links courses around the UK and Ireland, Portmarnock was built on perfect sandy links turf and as such the course drains exceptionally well, thus allowing golfers to play all year round.
Following a day on the fairways, golfers can enjoy light bite in either the Jameson Bar that is situated in the Old Jameson House, or retire to the Cocktail Lounge for breathtaking views of the sea and golf course.
Accommodation
The hotel at Portmarnock, set amidst its own 200-acre estate, was once called St Marnock's House and served as the private home to the Jameson family, now so famous for the Irish whisky that they export worldwide. The luxury hotel now in its place retains the sense of charm and history, and fully justifies its position skirting the coast. With the recent addition of the new €40 wing, the accommodation options have been further enhanced.
Whichever type of en-suite bedroom a visitor chooses, it is likely that it will feature views of either the sea or golf course, and all offer that charming mix of traditional Irish hospitality and the comforts of a top modern hotel. In addition, superb cuisine can be enjoyed at the hotel, and the extremely luxurious Health Spa offers excellent activities for those not keen for the links. Oceana Spa offers guests an intimate, personal retreat that serves to rejuvenate the skin, relax the body and revitalize the mind. The facilities include wellness therapy in the three purpose-built treatment rooms, sauna, nail bar, hair salon and gym.
Exquisite creations are on the menu at Osborne's Restaurant, which has been awarded an AA Rosette. Relaxed dining and comfortable drinking are on offer in both The Cocktail Bar and The Jameson Bar.
